Google “best interview questions” and invariably you will get a page of results relating to job interviews. Great if that’s what you’re looking for. Google “best interview questions for friends” and now we’re talking. The results are a little more relevant and exciting for my purpose. What’s my purpose you ask? Interviewing my friends, obviously, and the random, interesting people I meet. I am a firm believer of everyone has a story to share. So in this spirit I have set out to interview all my friends.
Why I want to interview my friends…
The idea actually started in a conversation I had with a friend of mine about his life goals, or dreams (I like the sound of dreams). His was to be invited and give a TED Talk. When I heard this I furiously nodded in agreement.
TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world.
Yes, that would be very awesome, I agreed. The next thought I had about TED was during my morning pages (started since 23 Feb, 2015 and only missed two days up til now). If you haven’t heard of morning pages, I encourage you to take a gander. They are, as my good friend says, full of “pay dirt”. My idea was to host an informal TEDxDinner at my place. This idea is still in my head and yet to be realised (it’s on my projects epic to do list). I did manage to mention this to a few friends and most seem keen for the idea. More on this later. Back to interviews. So this is when I realised a good, achievable place to start would be interviews. So I simply started.
