Tomorrow I’ll be attending a 3 day course (Remind) over the period of the next 3 Fridays at the Schizophrenia Fellowship. As it says on the website
“There’s nothing more powerful than hearing about mental illness experiences from those who have lived it”
As someone who has been in hospital a few times (interesting times – which I will be speaking about in my book), I believe I am qualified to speak about my experiences. I do hope in the future that I will have plenty of opportunities to speak publicly about my experience. I choose to see things in a positive light and my journey has definitely provided me with insights that I otherwise would not have access to.
One thing that I am not particularly fond of, is referring to the experience as an illness. I believe it is far from this… an illness to me, implies there is something innately wrong or disordered about the experience, and it doesn’t always need to be that way.
